Publication of Parham Taghioff’s Conversation in the Journal of Visual Art Practice

“Rewriting History: A Conversation between Parham Taghioff and Hamidreza Karami”

A new illustrated conversation between Parham Taghioff and Hamidreza Karami, titled “Rewriting History,” has been published in the latest issue of the international journal Journal of Visual Art Practice (Vol. 23, No. 1, 2024), published by Routledge | Taylor & Francis Group.

This dialogue appears as part of the special issue “Iranian Contemporary Art: Re-Positioning History and Cultural Memory,” edited by Dr Hamid Keshmirshekan, and explores the relationship between history, memory, and representation in Taghioff’s photographic practice.

In the conversation, Taghioff reflects on his deep engagement with the philosophy of history and its manifestation within his photographic projects. Key works such as “Hands On / Hands Off” (2014) and “Asymmetrical Authority” (2018) are discussed as examples of his personal and philosophical reading of history. He emphasises the inherently dynamic and unfinished nature of historical understanding, noting that the continuous emergence of new documents, narratives, and facts prevents any definitive comprehension of the past.

The discussion concludes with insights into Taghioff’s artistic methodology, which involves the analytical use of archival materials, texts, and images to reconstruct and critically examine diverse historical perspectives.
