Publication of Parham Taghioff’s Works in “The Art of Iran in the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries: Tracing the Modern and the Contemporary” by Dr Hamid Keshmirshekan

The photographic works of Parham Taghioff are featured in the newly published book The Art of Iran in the Twentieth and Twenty-first Centuries: Tracing the Modern and the Contemporary by Hamid Keshmirshekan, released by Edinburgh University Press.

Part of the Edinburgh Historical Studies of Iran and the Persian World series, this volume—published in May 2023—explores and theorises modern and contemporary Iranian art within its historical, cultural, and aesthetic contexts. In this comprehensive study, Keshmirshekan offers a critical and comparative perspective on Iranian artistic movements from the 1940s to the present, analysing their dialogue with the country’s intellectual, social, and political transformations.

Within this framework, Taghioff’s Artworks are presented as significant examples of contemporary approaches in Iranian art photography—works distinguished by their poetic and philosophical engagement with space, history, and memory, securing a prominent position within the discourse of contemporary Iranian art.

The book, comprising 320 pages and 52 illustrations, forms part of a wider scholarly effort to revisit and document the trajectory of modernity in Iranian art.
